General Information

In 2011, Dee Fink & Associates will begin offering two online courses that will allow college teachers – IN THE USA OR INTERNATIONALLY – to learn about designing their courses in a way that promotes greater student engagement and better student learning.

Here is some general information about these two online courses:

General Course on “Designing Significant Learning Experiences” Course Specifically on “Designing ONLINE or HYBRID Courses”

  4. Context and Situation
  5. Writing High Quality Learning Goals
  6. Identifying Learning Activities
  7. Identifying Feedback & Assessment Activities

  9. Creating a Learning-Centered Grading System
  10. Identifying Possible Problems
  11. Communicating Your Design to Students
  12. Evaluating Your Own Teaching
  13. Continuing to Learn about Teaching
Titles of Modules:

  1. Introduction
  2. Model of “Integrated Course Design”
  3. Developing Learning Goals
  4. Developing Assessments
  5. Developing Learning Activities
  6. Aligning Goals, Learning Objectives, Assessments, & Learning Activities
  7. Determining Organizational and Navigational Strategies
  8. Designing Introductory Activities
  9. Using Media & Technology
  10. Ensuring Access & Compliance (ADA & Copyright)
  11. Assessing an Online or Hybrid Course
  12. Next Steps; Feedback

Both courses will require approximately 30-50 hours of work to complete, and both courses will be led by a “Feedback Facilitator.”

Certificates Available: The “General Course” has two Certificates that can be earned:

  1. Certificate of Completion: Issued when you complete all 13 units.
  2. Certificate of Performance: If, after completing the course, you can submit the design of your course and it is reviewed as meeting 9 criteria for good course design, you will be issued this certificate. It indicates that you not only know about course design but that you can also do it!
